  • The Gallarus Oratory (Irish: Séipéilín Ghallarais meaning "The Church of the Place of the Foreigners") is believed to be an early Christian church built between the 6th and 9th centuries. It has a corbelled roof and is built with stones laid at a slight angle - lower on the outside than on the inside - to allow rainwater to run off and thus keep the interior relatively dry despite the lack of mortaring. The building has remained in excellent condition for 1300 years. Dingle Peninsula, Ireland, 1991
